Bidding in a Timed Auction

How Does Bidding Work in Timed Auctions?

Each lot has an individual auction closing time displayed on the lot list and detail page. Lots close at regular intervals, typically 1 to 2 minutes apart.

You can place bids incrementally at the next bid level or enter a maximum bid, allowing the system to bid on your behalf up to your limit.

Incremental Bids

Each auction has predefined bid increments that increase as bidding progresses. Generally, bid increments rise by approximately 10% of the current bid.

What Happens If I Place a Bid That Doesn’t Align with a Bid Increment?

If your bid doesn’t match an increment, the system will round it down to the nearest valid bid increment.

How Does the Time Extension Work?

If a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes before closing, the bidding period extends by 5 minutes to allow counter-bidding. This continues until no further bids are placed for 5 minutes.

Maximum Bids

You can place a maximum bid, which allows Rue Pinard to automatically bid on your behalf up to your set limit. If competing bids are placed, your bid will be one increment higher than the current highest bid up to your maximum.

I Placed a Bid but Changed My Mind. What Can I Do?

Bids placed online are legally binding and cannot be retracted. If you have a problem, please contact the auctioneer.
