Key Details

  1. Historical Context:

    • The "Episcopale du IIIème Millénaire" translates to "Episcopal of the Third Millennium."
    • This specific bottling commemorates the beginning of the third millennium, making it a collector's item and a piece of modern history.
    • "Mise 2000" indicates that it was bottled in the year 2000.
  2. Production:

    • Produced by the Carthusian monks in Voiron, France, this Chartreuse is crafted following the traditional methods and secret recipe that has been preserved since 1605.
    • The exact blend of 130 herbs, plants, and flowers is macerated in alcohol and then aged in oak casks, a process that gives Chartreuse its complex flavor and distinctive green color.
  3. Alcohol Content:

    • At 45% ABV, this Chartreuse has a slightly lower alcohol content compared to the more common Green Chartreuse (55% ABV), making it smoother and more accessible for some palates.
  4. Packaging:

    • The 100 cl size is larger than the standard 70 cl bottles, offering more value and making it a substantial addition to any collection.
    • The original green box (ogb) enhances its appeal as a collectible, often adding to its value on the secondary market.
  5. Tasting Notes:

    • Appearance: Vibrant green color.
    • Aroma: Rich and complex bouquet with herbal, floral, and spicy notes.
    • Palate: Balanced, with pronounced herbaceous flavors, hints of citrus, mint, and spices, followed by a lingering finish.
  6. Collectibility and Value:

    • This edition is highly sought after by collectors due to its limited release and historical significance.
    • Its value can appreciate over time, especially if it remains in its original packaging and is well-preserved.
  7. Serving Suggestions:

    • Traditionally enjoyed neat or over ice to appreciate its full range of flavors.
    • It can also be used in classic cocktails such as the Last Word or as a unique ingredient in modern cocktail creations.
