This version of the now-famous Caroni rum has aged for 17 years in bourbon barrels in the tropics. It is probably thanks to these additional years (the share of angels reaches 70%!) that he has acquired more softness and roundness than his counterparts of 12 and 15 years.
Although it has the usual phenolic markers of rums from this distillery closed for many years, these are further behind.
Caroni 17 years is in limited edition. Given its great rarity today we limit sales to one copy per order.
Its dress is a beautiful amber.
On the nose, its fragrance is felt quite far from the glass but it gains in intensity and complexity as you get closer. It offers impressive concentration. What strikes above all is the register of smoky notes, tobacco aromas, and roasted accents. But that's not all, since the leather is also noticed while more greedy and fruity aromas are in ambush not so far behind.
In the mouth, the attack is very pleasant, coats the mouth well and offers a "thick" texture. The palate is even more fruity and greedy than the nose. The fruits are here form a very nice balance. A feeling of heat emerges but the alcohol does not burn, it is very well integrated, which makes you want to keep it in your mouth even more.
The finish is, as often at Caroni, extremely long where the fruits pass in the background and where the more typical aromas of this distillery have the spotlight.
