The 1895 Madinina Plantation Rhum is a rare and historic agricole rum from Martinique, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice in 1895 at the Habitation Saint-Pierre distillery. This distillery was tragically destroyed during the catastrophic eruption of Mount PelΓ©e on May 8, 1902. Prior to this disaster, barrels of this rum were shipped to France in the spring of 1902. Between 1904 and 1906, the rum was bottled in Bercy, Paris, by M. Fanton & Fils, where it remained undisturbed in their cellars for decades, making it a remarkable survivor of a bygone era.

Technical Details:

  • Distillation Year: 1895
  • Distillery: Habitation Saint-Pierre, Martinique
  • Aging: 7 years in oak barrels
  • Alcohol by Volume (ABV): originally 55%
  • Bottle Size: 1 liter

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Amber hue with orange and greenish reflections, indicative of its extensive aging.
  • Nose: A refined and indulgent bouquet featuring vanilla, burnt caramel, dried fruits like apricot and raisins, nuts, and subtle cigar notes.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and smooth, presenting flavors of licorice, leather, nectarine pit, cinnamon, and prune, reminiscent of an aged port.
