In the spring of 1903, a new Chartreuse distillery was established in Tarragona, Spain, due to the Carthusian monks' exile from France. This Spanish distillery kept the legacy alive for nearly a century, producing Chartreuse until 1989. Tarragona’s unique climate and ingredients gave this Chartreuse its distinctive character, cherished by connoisseurs worldwide.

In 2022, Chartreuse paid homage to this Spanish heritage by bottling a special edition in Tarragona.
