Delve into the rich history of Glendronach with this extraordinary pre-World War Two bottling from the Highland distillery in Forgue, near Huntly. Glendronach, founded in 1826 by James Allardice, underwent reconstruction in 1852 by Walter Scott (not to be confused with the famous author). This distillery, a silent establishment for a period, eventually found its way into the hands of the illustrious Grant family of Glenfiddich.

Silent since 1916, Glendronach was sold by the government to Charles Grant, the youngest son of William Grant, in 1920. Charles's signature graces this stunning bottle, believed to date back to the 1930s. This bottle represents one of the earliest releases from the newly revived distillery, likely aged around 12 years, making it a rare and sought-after piece of whisky history.

Notably, this bottling stands as one of the early examples of an officially bottled single malt, referred to as "perfect self whisky" on the label. Adding to its intrigue, the label humorously suggests it is "most suitable for medicinal purposes." While this phrasing is likely an archaic way of highlighting the whisky's value as a medicinal product, it adds a charming touch to the historical context of the bottle.

As you savour this exceptional piece, you're not just experiencing a whisky; you're immersing yourself in a snapshot of Glendronach's revival and the fascinating evolution of Scotch whisky in the 1930s. A true collector's gem, this bottle invites you to appreciate the craftsmanship and heritage of Glendronach from a bygone era.
